me and my pal

My pal is lil Thor, the nearly year old cat.The only differences we have are that he kills birds (he just bagged a pigeon and performed a stunning dive into the chest) and we can't really communicate freely. The little birdie is growing feathers like crazy, sleeps a lot and doesn't eat quite as much.I think it'll be alright.Thor has smelt and heard the noises emnating from the wee one, and he nearly jumped on the counter to investigate (eat) today, so I've been ever vigilant.

Baby Bird

We found a baby bird on the ground this afternoon, the nest was nearby. There's been some stormy weather due to a hurricane that isn't too far away, so the branch the nest was in ended up on the car.I couldn't find out how old it is, the eyes are opening and there are some feathers.Been feeding it chopped up egg whites, it peeeeeps so loudly when hungry. It is safely nestled in a box with old towels and paper towels which are being changed due to soiling.I think that is a good sign, that it eats so much and can digest the food.Wonder how long it'll last.Keep your hopes up, lil birdy!

Inspiration!

I think the fascination of "celebrity" in the media at this day and age is really scary, unhealthy and just plain weird.
We've seen everyone's tits and know who uses what prescription, what poor mom nearly dropped her son and shaved her head.
The thing that bothers me the post about this obsession is that you'd think people would be so busy and fufilled that they wouldn't bother with wasting their brains and money on these things.
I find it ironic and disturbing that people find these people they have never met, and will never, as role models and go as far as plastic surgery in order to more like them.
VERY CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPY!

Humidity getting the best of me

Well, it has been really really humid here! Yesterday was the worst so far.I was trying to do some writing and I kept getting lolled to sleep as it was so hot. I didn't smell terribly good, either.I've been reading The Water Beetle, which is a collection of journalism and reviews by Nancy Mitford.Doubt you've heard of her.But she has the style which I think is most similar to mine: acerbic, sarcastic, all the while being sweet and timeless.
Two nights ago was the annual Swarm of the Cockaroaches.Once a year, in the summer, usually on the hottest night, around 10 pm the cockaroaches start to swarm outside, trying to get inside where all the light is.As there are no able males in the house now, my mom and I have to scurry and kill by ourselves. If you think this is funny, why don't you come deal with it.These roaches get to be huge, as long as your hand at times.I had a sleepless night, due to the fear the one of those charmers would alight on my shoulder like last year.
The only relief from the humidity has been a good swim in the ocean. And bicycle riding in the evening, it's so nice to have a breeze when going down streets.

4th of July

That day has always involved avoiding fireworks to me.And making sure the cats are inside and ok.But we watched the fireworks from the beach last night, ate carrot cake and drank red tea so that was a nice fun change.I was surprised the neighborhood wasn't more smokey, in fact.I suppose they are saving up for New Year's Eve.

Welcome !

Yay! My first entry....on the auspicious date of the 4th of July. It's been really humid here, but it's not too bad today.Am not looking forward to the smoke and noise of fireworks though. It can get like a war zone! I think there ought to be law that doesn't allow purchasing fireworks as late as 8 pm here! It should be 4 pm the previous day.But I guess people are happy with respiratory infections and other hazards of smoke...
on to more concrete matters! I'm reading a huge book on Nelson Mandela, now I want to read his autobiography.Apartheid really is a term my generation seems to be in denial of.A shame.
I guess I should explain more about the name of the blog:Viva la Macka! Well, everyone knows what Viva means (with) and Macka means cat in Croatian ( I am half Croatian).I have three cats, so that was an easy decision.More or less, cats move gracefully, switfly and often hilariously through life.Something most humans do not, in general.
Well I can't think of any more titillating things to say.Just hope all have a nice and safe day.
